A very good expanded definition of a 'word' in the context of computer architecture can be found on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_(computer_architecture) (Wikipedia receives a lot of undeserved criticism for being 'dumbed-down', but in the area of Computer Science (Wikipedia's first subject area) its information is very accurate and well curated for readability).
