Found this short video which outlines the development of Rollercoaster Tycoon (1999), and how assembly language differs from high-level programming languages. The resulting efficiency and robustness of the game, and Chris Sawyer's effort put into developing it in assembly language is impressive. I fondly remember playing this game on the most clapped setup and being surprised that it didn't have the frame-rate of a Powerpoint slideshow.
