This forum is provided to promote discussion amongst students enrolled in CITS3007 Secure Coding. If posting a question, it's suggested you check first whether your question is answered in the unit Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) list, and use the search box (on the right) to see if an answer to your question has already been posted.

Please consider offering answers and suggestions to help other students! And if you fix a problem by following a suggestion here, it would be great if other interested students could see a short "Great, fixed it!"  followup message.

Note that any posts must comply with the UWA Code of Conduct and the UWA Academic Conduct Policy. That means you should (a) treat everyone with respect and courtesy, and (b) not post your solutions to an assessment that's in progress.

If asking a programming question, it's recommended you read How do I ask a good question? If reporting or troubleshooting a bug in software used in the unit, it's recommend you read How to report bugs effectively.

Hi all,

Just some hopefully useful information about the exam tomorrow:

  • The University recommends you arrive for any exam at least 15 minutes before the start time. That's especially important for lab-based exams, since you need to make sure you're logged on and logged in to Moodle in order to start the exam.

  • If you need to use your phone to get your logon details for the lab computers or for Moodle, that's fine, but after that, phones must be switched off and kept in a bag under your desk.

  • As with the mid-semester exam, the questions are mostly multiple choice/short answer, with several long coding and/or English answer questions. No multiple choice/short answer questions will require you to make use of a compiler, and no access to any other software besides a web browser and PDF viewer is permitted.

  • Long answer (code or English) questions are assessed based on your ability to answer the question and the understanding you demonstrate – not on your ability to produce syntactically perfect code. That said, Moodle does provide feedback from the compiler on whether your code compiles, which may be useful to you. No other static or dynamic analysis is applied to your code.

  • The lab sheets, lecture slides and C11 draft standard will be downloadable from Moodle as a .zip file, from a Moodle area labelled "CITS3007 exam permitted materials". But it's best to attempt to answer questions from memory – attempting to search through the materials for answers to a question will only waste valuable time. If you have spare time at the end of the exam, the materials may be a useful resource for double-checking your answers.

  • If you encounter any technical issues (e.g., computer shut down, keyboard broken, etc.), please (a) contact an invigilator and (b) if possible, attempt to take a screenshot, sending an email to myself ([email protected]) and the UWA service desk ( [email protected]). Any technical issues will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

  • As with all University exams, you must bring and display your student ID. If you don't have adequate identification, you may not be permitted to take the exam.

I hope that's of assistance – best of luck for tomorrow.

Cheers

Arran
