Hi all,

Thansk for your patience and understanding during this difficult week. I'll put
all the important announcements here, which hopefully will address most of the
questions I've been asked:

1. The midterm test is cancelled for safety reasons. It has been replaced by a
website project:

2. There is a small extension on the project for everyone (CITS3403 and CITS5505)
to Thursday April 9 at 5pm.

3. In the second project, for CITS3403 students we will allow teams of 2-4. All
team sizes will be assessed according to he same standard. Note that there is an
individual contribution and team work component to the project, that will require
you to provide evidence of your collaboration (specifically git logs and issue

4. In the second project, for CITS5505 students, we will require pairs of
students to work together.

5. While the project requires group collaboration, we will give directions to
help you collaborate online. Using Git will be mandatory but we will also
recommend some project collaboration tools like Slack to help you work together.

6. Lectures will be livestreamed (probably from my desk) via Zoom
https://uwa.zoom.us/j/336243157. A copy of the video will be uploaded to ECHO 360

7. Consultations will be done over video using Zoom:

8. Workshops will be livestreamed by Tom and me via Zoom
https://uwa.zoom.us/j/169383446. A copy of the vieo will be uploaded to ECHO360

9. Lab support wil be available during the standard lab times via Zoom. We will
just use the one Zoom link for all labs: https://uwa.zoom.us/j/996006222

10. Please stay safe and look after one another. If anyone is feeling overwhelmed
with the technology, I'm still happy to have face to face consultations.

All the best,

I've noticed a lot of people accessing Zoom meetings at odd times. The recordings
of the lecture and workshop will be available through Echo360 like the normal
The Zoom streams will only be available during the actual events. For now, we will
retain the set timetable for all events, although we're obviously less constrained,
so could be flexibe later.

I hope that's clear for everyone.

Hi all,

I hope you had a relaxing break, and managed to get the first project done. Some
important information follows:

1. All the Zoom meetings (lectures, workshops and labs) require a password to
access from on. I've set the password to 000000 (six zeros) for all of them. The
meeting ids remain the same.

2. I have set up group registration for project 2 on https://drtnf.net/index.
This allows you to enter your fellow group members student numbers, project
title, and select your demonstration time. Demonstrations will take about 10
minutes and be done in week 12. All members of the group must be present at the
time. Also, the group registration project has been written using the same
technology as project 2 should be using, and the source is available.

3. There is a staff student liaison meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1pm. It's a
zoom meeting https://uwa.zoom.us/j/905811320, with password 945386. There will
also be a second meeting the following Tuesday, same time, meeting url and

4. The university will be using ExamSoft (Examplify) for end of semester exams.
This allows you to sit the exam on your home computer under exam conditions.
There is an FAQ at https://www.web.uwa.edu.au/novel-coronavirus/online-exam-faq.
Take particular note of the hardware requirements for examplify
(https://www.web.uwa.edu.au/novel-coronavirus/online-exam-faq#2-03), and you can
apply for hardware support if you require
The software does require high level access to the operating system, and there is
an option for students who do not wish examplify to do the exams at a different

The second half of the unit covers a lot of material and is fairly intense, so
make sure you keep up with lectures and ask questions early. I'll hopefully see
you all in lectures labs and workshops.

Good luck!
