Hello everyone, in the demo lecture tr -cs '[A-Za-z]' '\012' < Alice_in_Wonderland.txt, I understand what tr -c does but I don't understand why it needs to be there. What are we replacing with what?

'[A-Za-z]' will match any upper or lower case character. If you understand tr -c then you will know what characters we are trying to replace. \0 indicates that we are typing an octal value. In this case, we are putting in octal value 12. To know what character that is, you will need to look up an ascii table
