Hi, Although this is late before the final exam tomorrow, seeking this clarification will simply be for my own understanding and/or peace of mind. If I understand correctly, the only difference between CITS4407 and CITS2003 is in the final exam. After all, CITS4407 is for postgraduate students and as such the exam should (logically?) be more difficult than the one for CITS2203. (If this is untrue, and the exam is of the same difficulty for both cohorts but simply re-arranged - please disregard below). Except.. how does that make any sense? The content is the same. I, for one, come from a biology background and the best I could do was use Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager and that's as far as technology went for me. As such, I may very well be considered a first-year student in that regard, however I am now being assessed more thoroughly simply because I studied a separate field beforehand. Wouldn't it make more sense to have "CITS4407" be "CITS2003" and make it a conversion unit for postgraduate study? I am confident that I have no advantage over an undergraduate student for this unit. Sure, I can tell them about plant biology but how good is that for using sed or making an awk script? Thank you in advance for the clarification, and if you are just as frustrated as me Michael (which I believe you are), I sure hope that UWA sorts these two units out in the future for the next generation of students.

Hi, That is an excellent question, whose details are mired in politics. Please come and chat with me if you want the complete, messy story. I personally see it the same way you do, but was told that I need to differentiate the units in some way, so I did that in tomorrow's final exam. Some questions will indeed be different, but of similar difficulty, because it would be unfair to do otherwise. Good luck!!!! Cheers MichaelW
