Error message to stderr (both)

Hi You definitely need to print an error message. Best practice is it should be directed to stderr. I'm not sure what you mean by "before", but as your script goes line by line through the dirty input, either an okay line is sent to stdout or an error message goes to stderr, and then you go to the next line.
