Hi all,

Apologies for the difficulties joining the Zoom meetings. I posted the passwords, here:
https://secure.csse.uwa.edu.au/run/help5501?p=np&a=50
so hopefully we won't run into this issue again.

The workshop is on tomorrow as per normal.

Other announcements:

# Website outage

The has been a partial, and ongoing outage of the server hosting the CITS5501 material. I'll post Google
Drive links to the lecture notes shortly so anyone affected can access them.

# Exam format

The CITS5501 exam will be conducted using Examplify, and will be open book. As a class, we will be
reviewing the unit content, and going over practice exam questions, in the last week of semester, so there
will be an opportunity to see the typical format of an exam question and to raise any queries.

The university will also schedule a mock exam, so you can ensure the software works, before the day of the
exam.

However, if you do not have access to suitable hardware and software for running Examplify, note that you
can request access to a loan device from the University: see the Exam FAQ entry here:
https://www.web.uwa.edu.au/novel-coronavirus/online-exam-faq#2-03

Also, as per the Vice-Chancellor's email of 20 April, any student has the opportunity to opt out of using
Examplify either before or after they test the program with a mock exam, should they have unresolved
concerns about the software.

In this case, I will if possible schedule an alternative assessment. The replacement assessment is part
oral, part written. The oral portion will be conducted over Zoom and will involve answering questions
about course content and elaborating on written answers.

# Project

The project should be available shortly - hopefully tomorrow.

# Previous workshop marks

Release of marks was delayed due to some students having extensions - these should be back shortly as
well, in the next day or two.

As always, let me know if you have any queries, and take care.

Cheers

Arran

What does open book entail?
for Example, are we able to have a word document open or does everything have to be hard copy and printed off.
Also, I was wondering if you have the capicty to turn off the requirement for a webcam/microphone as those are a
little too invasive.

Has this occurred? if so, I am unable to find the project on the webpage anywhere. I have looked under assessments and it doesn't seem to be there.

Hi Michael -

The exam will be run by the Exams Office, and invigilation will by them and ExamSoft. So, I don't have the capacity to
turn webcams or microphones or anything else on or off.

But as mentioned, either prior to doing a mock exam or subsequent, you can opt out of using Examplify.

cheers

It has, yes -- you might need to refresh
https://teaching.csse.uwa.edu.au/units/CITS5501/assessment/#project
in your browser.

Oh, and in response to your other question: I believe everything will have to be printed out, unfortunately. Since, even though
it's open book, you can't use phones or computers.

I'll add an "Exam" section to the assessments page with answers to questions people have asked here in the forum.

cheers
