Trouble with OpenGL on Ubuntu VM

I've been working on setting up my Ubuntu VM on my windows laptop and it seemed like
everything was working. I've set up open GL and finally managed to get the makefile to
work. I've managed to create the example1 program as a test, however, when i try to
run it (./example1) i get this error message.

X Error of failed request: GLXBadFBConfig
Major opcode of failed request: 152 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 34 ()
Serial number of failed request: 39
Current serial number in output stream: 38

After some googling i've found basically no solutions. Only one being that my hardware
isn't supported by OpenGL. my laptop runs an intel core i7-7500u with integrated
graphics. Is the hardware the issue here? Or is there another problem i am missing?

Thanks in advance.
