C11 is used in UWA's CITS2002 Systems Programming and CITS3002 Computer Networks units.
On Linux, the
GNU
Compiler Collection
(gcc) is often pre-installed -
Linux can barely function without a C compiler and developer tools.
So you may not even need to install C on your system,
particularly if you have installed a developer version of Linux
(and not a minimal installation).
There are a number of popular Linux distributions. In CSSE we recommend installing the Ubuntu Linux Desktop distribution. See also Installing Linux developer tools.
On Windows you can download and install Microsoft's free
Visual Studio and the Microsoft C/C++ tools.
On macOS you should download and install
Apple's Xcode
from Apple's Mac App Store.
The full Xcode application is huge,
requiring over 40GB of disk space,
and supports development for Apple Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple-TV.
When you first run Xcode you will be asked to also install
Apple's Xcode
Command Line Tools.
Ensure that you install them as well!
