Please consider offering answers and suggestions to help other students! And if you fix a problem by following a suggestion here, it would be great if other interested students could see a short "Great, fixed it!"  followup message.

Hi, Will newer Linux versions such as those in current versions of WSL be okay to use for the labs? The version is 5.10.16.3 rather than the 5.4 specified in lab sheets. Thanks

Hi,

Yes, there's no problem with that, any 5.(something) version is fine.

(In fact, the labs should work with any 4.x kernel as well, and some 3.x kernels. The main changes that affect the labs are differences in security features between kernel versions. A kernel security module called Yama was added in kernel version 3.4, in May 2012, so some lab sheet instructions definitely wouldn't work for versions older than 3.4.)

Cheers!

Arran
