This forum is provided to promote discussion amongst students enrolled in CITS3007 Secure Coding. If posting a question, it's suggested you check first whether your question is answered in the unit Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) list, and use the search box (on the right) to see if an answer to your question has already been posted.

Please consider offering answers and suggestions to help other students! And if you fix a problem by following a suggestion here, it would be great if other interested students could see a short "Great, fixed it!"  followup message.

Note that any posts must comply with the UWA Code of Conduct and the UWA Academic Conduct Policy. That means you should (a) treat everyone with respect and courtesy, and (b) not post your solutions to an assessment that's in progress.

If asking a programming question, it's recommended you read How do I ask a good question? If reporting or troubleshooting a bug in software used in the unit, it's recommend you read How to report bugs effectively.

Hi all,

The quiz has now closed, and it looks like the average is fairly high, which is great – I take it to mean people have a pretty good understanding of basic concepts. (Or that I made the questions too easy.)

As per the rubric, short answer and multiple choice questions are "all or nothing" (there's no "0.666 of a mark" for getting only some options correct), so I need to apply some manual adjustments before releasing marks – Moodle doesn't do it automatically, unfortunately – but should have them available early next week.

Cheers, and enjoy your Friday and/or weekend.

Arran

Hi all -

Apologies for the delay. Just letting you know that quiz marks should be available either later today or tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi all,

Marks for the quiz are now available on csmarks, and feedback on individual questions should be viewable on Moodle.

The average mark for the quiz was 85%, which is excellent. Except for the very last one, the questions should all have been pretty straightforward; the ones people scored worst on (on average) were the questions to do with integer overflow. If you got any of those questions wrong, it's probably a good idea to review the lecture and lab material on integer overflow. If you got only 75% or less, that is significantly lower than the class average, and indicates there could be something lacking in either your approach to revision, or you understanding of concepts covered in class. If that's the case, you should make changes to the way you're studying: take a look at some study suggestions here, and contact me if you have any queries. Please do not simply do nothing, and expect your marks to improve! That is unlikely to happen; the assessments will get harder, not easier.

Anyone who was unable to sit the test for illness or other valid reasons will be shown as "Deferred" on csmarks (there may be a more appropriate notation, but I do not know it if so), but anyone who was absent without reason will be shown as having been awarded 0 marks.

If you were unable to sit the test due to illness etc. but would still like to do so (unassessed) as practice/revision, that is certainly possible. (I had intended to email those people earlier this week, but will have to do so during the break, instead.)

Enjoy your long weekend, and I hope you have a productive study break.

Cheers

Arran
