Here's an article about how they're stealing your data (on a service that UWA pays a commercial license for) and selling it to Google:

Agreed, it's insidious, but there seems few ways to escape it.
Consider the number of UWA webpages and services that collect Google analytics, and the Faculty and Guild services that encourage everyone to use 
Facebook by posting information there, sometimes the only way to obtain that information.
