I just wanted to clarify something. Does every state transition that occurs instantly takeover the CPU to perform the state transition, or would it enter the ready queue? I read elsewhere that state transitions require the CPU, so does this apply to every transition, wherein something moving from blocked to ready would need to call the CPU to perform the state transition? Depending on how this should be implemented (queued in ready, or instantly applied), this could greatly increase complication. Or it would at least differ from my solution which just assumed state transitions were similar to requesting read or write and could be done simultaneously to something executing on the CPU. Unless I'm also wrong about that.
