If a filename under consideration matches *any* of the -i options then it is ignored. If a filename under consideration matches *any* of the -o options then it is accepted.

Using the -a option requests that *all* files, regardless of whether they begin with a '.' or not, should be considered for synchronisation. The 'all' is in bold simply as a reminder as to why it's the minus *a* option. The same is true for the description of all other options too.
